Cruelty-Free Update

I am saddened by the need to write this post. If you have read my blog for very long, or taken a peek around at various different pages on my blog, you know that I strive to purchase only Cruelty-Free products. There are many drugstore brands that I don't buy because either the brand itself, or the parent company of the brand, is not cruelty-free.(To see my list of companies that do or do not test, click on the link at the top of my blog.)

I have taken to buying a lot of 3 specific drugstore brands because they were cruelty-free (and also had great polish) but I will no longer be purchasing any of those brands. Revlon, a company that stopped animal testing in 1989, has resumed testing to sell their products in Asia (where animal testing is required). In the past few months, Revlon purchased both Sinful Colors and Bari Cosmetics, who owns Pure Ice and Bon Bons brands.  This means I will no longer be purchasing any of these brands - three of my favorite brands. It really saddens me that Revlon felt the need to sell out just to make a bigger profit margin. I guess that's the nature of the beast though. They certainly aren't the first company to start testing so that their products could be sold in Asia.

I have been researching all of this information for a while because I did not want to make a rush decision and falsely accuse these companies without feeling like I had 100% proof. I felt the need to post this so that people would know what was happening with these companies and so they can make their own informed decisions. I do not condemn anyone for purchasing these brands and I am not trying to sway opinions - just stating my own.

Skull Mani Using Revlon Nail Art Stencils

Happy Saturday everyone!

I loved my Dandy Nails Mighty Fine Print mani so much that I wanted to extend it and make it even more Halloween related. It seemed like the perfect base for some skulls.

I have 2 different types of Revlon Nail Art Stencils - skulls and spiders (I am showing the spider stencil package here because I didn't think to get a photo of the skull ones before using them LOL). I was happily surprised with how well these worked! I used Milani White on the Spot after applying the stencil, let it sit for just a few seconds and gently peeled away the stencil and the image was perfectly crisp. If you are going to try to use a stencil for more than one nail (I did this) you need to have a paper towel nearby and, after removing it from your nail, wipe away the excess polish before it dries. I did use one stencil on two nails successfully, it is just a little messier than using a new one each time.

Revlon Nail Art Stencils are available in several styles and retail for around $5 for one package of 10 stencils. I am not sure how many retailers are carrying them but I found these at Walgreens.

Thanks for reading! ♥

31 Day Challenge Day 26 - Inspired By A Pattern

It was easy for me to decide which pattern to go with for today, I have been wanting to attempt plaid nails for a long time. They were difficult (for me), just as I had expected, but I am pretty happy with how they turned out.

My base was Filthy Gorgeous London Judy Baby and my design was done with Revlon Sassy and Sinful Colors Nail Art Stripers in Bad Chick and Time Off.

31 Day Challenge Day Thirteen - Animal Print!

Happy Hump Day! Today's challenge is animal print and, for once, I am super happy with this one! I absolutely love how this turned out! Say hello to my giraffe nails!

I used Nails Inc. Hampstead Gardens as my base and stamped with Revlon Espresso using Bundle Monster plate #BM10.

31 Day Challenge Day Nine - Rainbow Nails!

Happy Saturday! Welcome to Day 9 of the 31 Day Challenge - Rainbow Nails. I think today's post fits the word "happy" perfectly!

I decided to do a rainbow of dots. I started out with a base of Milani White on the Spot, then took my dotting tool and used (from top to bottom) Barry M Indigo, Zoya Mira, Revlon Sassy, Zoya Arizona and Zoya Shelby. Pretty simple (and definitely not perfect) but fun.

Revlon Whimsical

Happy Friday everyone!! Sorry I didn't get a post up last night, it was just one of those nights. LOL I will try to get another one up later to make up for it. :-)

I hope you aren't sick of light blue yet, I have yet one more (and FINAL) layer to the Sinful Colors Be Happy and Sinful Colors Cinderella mani. Revlon Whimsical, I am sure you have all seen it before but I hadn't worn it before so here it is. ;-)

Whimsical is a very sheer light blue base (I, personally, would not attempt to wear it alone) with small irridescent glitter and larger hex glitter in copper and blue. I think it looks great over the SC that I had on. My mom doesn't like blue polish but she liked this enough that she is now wearing it! I am wearing her down! LOL

The application was a little tricky, I had to do a lot of dabbing with this one. This is 2 coats but if I hadn't dabbed and placed the glitter it would have needed more. It was not a hungry glitter, I used one coat of Nubar Diamont Topcoat and it was perfectly smooth.

I hope you enjoyed Whimsical! My next post will not be blue! LOL

Mom's Birthday Cupcakes!

Saturday was my mom's birthday (Happy Birthday again Mom!) and I had the brilliant idea (or maybe not so brilliant LOL) to attempt nail art and put cupcakes on her nails. I started out doing them on all 10 fingers and didn't like the way they looked. So I took off all but 4 of them and went with it. LOL I loosely followed the tutorial I found HERE. I ended up working on her nails until after 1 in the morning.

Polishes used in this mani

On the "solid fingers":
Julep Carrie and OPI Teenage Dream

On the cupcake fingers:
OPI Rumples Wiggin' for the background
Julep Carrie and OPI Teenage Dream for the frosting
Revlon French Roast for the cake
Barry M Indigo and Avon Aqua Fantasy for the sprinkles
Nubar Fire Sparkle for the cherry

Everything was topped with Seche Vite

This mani is not 100%, I did these Friday night and didn't get pics until today (Monday). For 3 full days of wear I think they look pretty darn good!

What do you think of my cupcakes? I am fairly pleased with them, I think I may be able to master these eventually with some more practice.

Wonky Penguins!!!

Hello again lovelies!!! As mentioned in my previous post for my base color, NOX Twilight Poseidon, I did some nail art last night and am fairly happy with it. I had a lot going on last night and accidentally used the wrong topcoat and it smeared 2 of my nails. Argh.

Anyways, I had seen two really cute penguin manis lately. One was from my friend Jacki and Adventures in Acetone and the other from my friend Traci at The Trace Face Philes (you can see Jacki's HERE and Traci's HERE). Mine did not turn out as well as theirs but I am pretty happy with them. Some of them look cross-eyed, or drunk LOL, they're kind of wonky but I still love them.

I added a little bit of OPI Crown Me Already over Poseidon to resemble ice and snow and for the penguins I used OPI Black Onyx, OPI Alpine Snow and Revlon Tangerine. I topped it with Nubar Diamont Topcoat, which I love, but is apparently not the greatest for nail art. I meant to use Seche Vite but was distracted. LOL

My thumb...

My pinky....he's the cross-eyed drunk one LOL

And my favorite, he turned out so well! My index finger....

What do you think about my penguins? Be gentle please!!! LOL

Mom's Candy Corn Mani!

Happy Halloween everyone! I have 3 posts that I am planning on doing today but it's been a crazy day and is going to get crazier so please bear with me!

I went back to my favorite nail art technique for this mani....sponging! I love candy corn nails! I had done them on myself earlier in October but it was before I started blogging so I wanted to do them again and show you guys!

For this mani I used Sally Hansen White Tip, Revlon Tangerine and China Glaze Solar Power. For her ring finger I used a waterslide nail decal that features Snoopy sitting on top of a Jack-O-Lantern (I love "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown"). All nails were topped off with Orly Sec 'N Dry. I hope you like this mani as much as I do!

There was candy corn harmed (or eaten) during the making of this photo. ;) LOL

I hope you enjoyed this mani!
