Digit-al Dozen Does Fairytales, Day Five: Brave

Hello and happy start of the weekend! Today is the last day of Digit-al Dozen week which means I have officially survived! I'll admit, this week kicked my butt! But I had so much fun creating the nail art and thinking outside the box. This theme was not an easy one to start with but I'm glad I got to participate, it really pushed me to try things I wouldn't have otherwise! Today's mani is also serving as my "green base" manicure for today's (err... yesterday? LOL) prompt in the 13 Days of January Nail Art Challenge. I am behind a couple of manicures in that but I'll catch up!

I have been wanting to do a manicure for the Disney movie Brave for quite some time, but I never knew how to translate it into nail art. I've had it in the back of my mind all week but just kept pondering over it. I finally came up with something and I am really happy with how it turned out!

Post continued after the jump!

Have you seen Brave? If not, I highly recommend it! It's not your typical "Disney princess" movie. (Not that there's anything wrong with those.) Merida is a fiery Scottish redhead who likes to do things her own way. It's a story about finding yourself, as well as learning the value of family.

Do you recognize the different items represented on my nails? I hope so! But, if you don't, let me explain. Each item that I mention from the movie will be linked to a picture if you aren't familiar with the movie.

My thumb is a representation of Merida's hair. I was quite pleased with how it turned out. It took a lot of layering (and layering and layering) to get it just right! I used Zoya Paz, SinfulSHINE Devious and Barry M Mango with several different shades of acrylic paints that I mixed together to get the varying shades.

My index and ring fingers feature Merida's bow and arrows. Merida is quite the archer! I created a gradient for my base using Elevation Polish Cuernos del Paine and Hinglajgarh Forest. The rest was done with acrylic paint.

My ring finger represents their Celtic symbol from their flag. This is probably the smallest detail work I have ever done and I am pretty proud of it! There's still lots of room for improvement but I quite like it! I used mostly acrylic pain on that nail, with some black creme nail polish as well.

Finally, my pinky is a will o' the wisp. This one took a lot of layering (and removing, and layering again) to get it to look like I wanted it. It's not quite as "glowy" as I would have liked but it's pretty close! I used SinfulSHINE Most Sinful and Orly Royal Navy with acrylic paint for that one.

I hope you enjoyed my first Digit-al Dozen week as much as I did! I can't wait for next month!

Don't forget to check out all of the fabulous manis below!

Thanks for reading and happy polishing!
