Daphine Polish Sleepy Hollow Trio ♥

Press Sample

I don't know about you but I am so ready for Halloween! I just love Halloween and all the spooky fun and of course Halloween-themed polishes! I have a spooky collection from Daphine Polish for you today based on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

I love the story behind this collection, as told by Joanne, Creator of Daphine Polish:

I spent most of my childhood in Westchester County, in which Sleepy Hollow is located, so the Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a tale we heard growing up as kids. Sleepy Hollow High School's mascot is even the Headless Horsemen! Today Sleepy Hollow boasts an impressively large historical cemetery, and within it sits the cemetery at the Old Dutch Church that is featured in the Legend. Of course they hold lots of events and tours in the autumn, especially around Halloween! My Halloween trio is inspired by characters in Washington Irving's Legend of Sleepy Hollow, though my goal was to make colors that could be worn year-round.

Post continued after the jump!

I have 3 amazing polishes to show you and a lot of pics to go with them.  I will  post Joanne's description first, followed by my thoughts. Let's get started!

The Hessian

A black holographic jelly polish with red sparkle. Deep, dark, and just a little bit sinister.
“It is said by some to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper, whose head has been carried away by a cannon-ball, in some nameless battle during the Revolutionary War, and who is ever and anon seen by the country folk hurrying along in the gloom of night, as if on the wings of the wind.”

The Hessian is my favorite polish in this collection! I'm just going to tell you right now that my photos do not do this one justice. The holographic effect in this, while scattered (not linear), is much more noticeable in person than in my photos. And the red shimmer in this really sets it apart and makes it special. I can see myself wearing this one a lot! The formula was very easy to work with. It is a crelly to allow the sparkle to shine through the black. I used 3 thin coats for the photos but when I wore it later on I only used 2 and it was opaque. Most photos show one coat of topcoat but I do have a few without topcoat as well; also shown in various lighting (see the captions).

Katrina Van Tassel

A purple holographic polish with red shift, perfectly coquettish and pleasing to the eye.
“She was a blooming lass of fresh eighteen; plump as a partridge; ripe and melting and rosy-cheeked as one of her father’s peaches, and universally famed, not merely for her beauty, but her vast expectations.”

Katrina Van Tassel  likes to shift from cool purple to warm purple thanks to the flash of red/pink in this polish. The scattered holographic finish adds depth and just the right amount of sparkle. This one was thinner than The Hessian and requires 3 regular coats for full opacity.I used one coat of topcoat for the photos. Shown in various lighting (see the captions).

Ichabod from Connecticut

A glitter topcoat with neon green, silver, grey, and orange glitters. Bright, bold, and perhaps just a tiny bit silly.
“...a worthy wight of the name of Ichabod Crane, who sojourned, or, as he expressed it, ‘tarried,’ in Sleepy Hollow, for the purpose of instructing the children of the vicinity…To see him striding along the profile of a hill on a windy day, with his clothes bagging and fluttering about him, one might have mistaken him for the genius of famine descending upon the earth, or some scarecrow eloped from a cornfield.”

Ichabod from Connecticut is a great glitter topper that is just perfect for the season! I used it over The Hessian and Katrina Van Tassel and I really like the way it pops over both. The glitter is suspended very well and I didn't have to do any digging for glitter. I used one thick coat over The Hessian and two thinner coats over Katrina Van Tassel and had no issues either way. One coat of topcoat for the photos.

What do you think? The Hessian was my favorite but they are all great and they all go together very well.
