Daphine Polish Holiday Collection - Swatches and Review

Press Sample

Happy Friday, everyone! I skipped the Black Friday craziness (at least in person - LOVE online sales!) and have the holiday collection from Daphine Polish to show you! This collection is made up of 10 brand new polishes!

She also has a sale going on this weekend so stay tuned until the end of the post for information on that!

Post continued after the jump! It's a lengthy one so grab a cup of hot cocoa and settle in!

This collection consists of 5 holographic shimmers and 5 glitter toppers. Let's start with the holographic shimmers first!

Joanne, the creator of Daphine Polish, describes these as follows:

Bahplumbug
Purple linear holographic polish
Naming contest winner Shannon Vogel came up with this fantastically witty name.

Blue Spruce
Forest green loose linear holographic polish
I know, it’s a green polish with “Blue” in it’s name. But this polish was named after the type of pine tree that is often used as a Christmas tree. It’s also a reference to one of my favorite movies, “While You Were Sleeping”. As Sandra Bullock attempts to haul a Christmas tree up the side of her apartment building she exclaims “I should’ve gotten the blue spruce, they’re lighter.”

Golden Ring
Bright golden yellow polish with subtle scatter holographic effect.
Perfectly represents the gold rings from the 5th day of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”.

Midnight Snowfall
Royal blue linear holographic polish

While I can’t say I’ve seen this in the city, at home in the suburbs when it is snowing at night and you look out the window, the world is a dark black and blue glimmery wonderland.

Poinsettia
Christmas red loose linear holographic polish
This bright red flower has been associated with the Christmas season since the 16th century.

-------------------------------------------------

All of the holographic polishes had a smooth, easy formula. They are all a tad on the thin side but nothing problematic at all. The first bottle of Golden Ring I received had pieces of pigment that weren't fully mixed so Joanne fixed the issue and sent me a brand new bottle and it was perfect! Nothing like speedy fixes! These all have a soft, subtle holographic effect which is quite nice and perfect for winter. I used 3 thin coats of all of these for the photos but I think 2 regular coats would work as well. Now, onto the pics! (All photos were taken under artificial lighting and no topcoat was used.)

Now for the glitters!

Joanne describes these as follows:

Christmas in a Bottle
Green and red matte glitter, gold holographic glitter, silver holographic micro glitter, and gold holo stars in a clear base.
It’s pretty much exactly what it says it is - Christmas, in a bottle! All you need to complete the scene is the smell of pine and presents under a tree :D

Frosty
Many shapes of white glitters with iridescent hexes, squares and bars in a clear base.
The spirit of Frosty the Snowman, bottled.

Rosina Violet
Multitudes of pink glitters with pink shimmer in a clear base. Violets are hardy plants that produce flowers even in winter. The Rosina violet is a lovely delicate pink flower, reminiscent of the glitters found in this polish. Picture for reference.

Rudolph’s Nose
Red metallic, matte, and holographic glitters with green iridescent glitter in a clear base.
Shiny and bright just like Rudolph’s nose, this glitter topper could light the way anywhere.

Skating
Metallic, matte, and holographic blue glitter, metallic silver glitter, and silver holographic diamonds with gold shimmer in a clear base.
Having worked several holiday seasons in retail, I am not a big fan of Christmas music (being forced to listen to five different versions of Feliz Navidad for six weeks straight is not healthy for even a Christmas music lover). The soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas is always on in the background at my annual Christmas get together my high school friends and I have, and it’s the only holiday music I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of. “Skating” is a lovely little instrumental from the soundtrack, and it makes me think of a clear ice blue pond with dainty figure skaters dashing about.

---------------------------------

All of the glitters had a great formula and I only used one coat over my base color (unless otherwise noted) for the photos. The glitters in Rosina Violet were a bit more sparse than the others but I quite liked that. Please note the lighting in the captions. One coat of topcoat for all photos.

Christmas in a Bottle

Once coat over a plain grey creme. The shimmer in this one is amazing! I put this over a medium grey creme and it transformed it into a bronze/green shimmer!

Whew! What do you think? I really like this whole collection! My top 2 holos are Bahplumbug and Poinsettia and my top 2 glitters are Christmas in a Bottle and Rosina Violet!
