Light It Up Blue for Autism Speaks - Blogger Collaboration Manis ♥

Hello everyone! Today, April 2nd, is World Autism Awareness Day.

For World Autism Awareness Day - Light It Up Blue/Autism Speaks some of my blogger friends and I decided to do blue manis to show our support. Click for more information on Light It Up Blue. (You can also see my post from last year here.)

The "logos" for this cause are puzzle piece(s) and a lightbulb. I attempted puzzle pieces last year so I decided to try a lightbulb this year - and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

Light It Up Blue Mani

I used Nails Inc. Baker Street as my base. The light bulb was done with Milani White on the Spot and A England Dorian Gray. I also used a tiny bit of Glitter Gal Lemon Fizz around the edges to create a "glowing" effect. It didn't translate so well in the photos though.

Just for fun I decided to add some glow in the dark polish (Ninja Polish Candy Corn) to the light bulb. If I had been thinking I would have used Howling Blue Moon to make it glow blue. There's always next time. ;)

Thanks for reading and happy polishing! ♥

Autism Awareness Day - Let's Wear Blue!

I have internet for a few minutes (it has been out all day and I don't know how long it will last) so this will be a quick post! I will show you my mani first and then the ones of people who posted their manis to my Facebook page! If you missed my first post on this you can find it HERE.

As I have said before, I suck at nail are, but I wanted to attempt something for today! The puzzle pieces are one of the logos for Autism Awareness.

For my dark blue I used Nubar Sapphire, for the accent nail I used Milani White On The Spot (my new favorite white, much better than the OPI and it is Cruelty-Free!). My puzzle pieces are Sinful Colors Nail Art Stripers in Lagoon and Be My Valentine as well as Sinful Colors Irish Green.

Now for all the other fab manis I have seen today!! If they have blogs, their posts will be linked above the photo. Make sure to check them out!

World Autism Awareness Day, Monday, April 2, 2012- Let's Wear Blue Polish!!

This coming Monday, April 2nd, is World Autism Awareness Day. This is a special cause for me because I know a VERY special little boy who happens to have autism. Those of us in the polish community have pulled together before for other causes and I fully believe we can do it again.

On Monday make sure to paint your nails blue! It's as simple as that. Is it going to change anything? Maybe not. But it might just help raise awareness, even if it only opens one person's eyes, it's worth it.  Someone else suggested adding in puzzle pieces with the blue. I think this is a wonderful idea! I will attempt it, even though we all know how I fail at nail art. I want to see YOUR blue manis! If you paint your nails blue on Monday, with or without the puzzle pieces, I want you to upload a picture to my Facebook page. I will share it on Facebook, make sure to link your blog if you have one!

From Autism Speaks: "Autism statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identify around 1 in 88 American children as on the autism spectrum–a ten-fold increase in prevalence in 40 years. Careful research shows that this increase is only partly explained by improved diagnosis and awareness. Studies also show that autism is three to four times more common among boys than girls. An estimated 1 out of 54 boys and 1 in 252 girls are diagnosed with autism in the United States."
